Owner: Joe Persi, JR. Year: 1977 Make:Cobra II History:I purchased the car new in 1977 as a
black and gold cobra II. it came with a 302, and a 4 speed. My cobra went
through many changes, first some 69 windsor heads, headers and cam.The best
et. at that time was a 15.00. That was in 1984 .after a few trips to the drag
strip I was hooked. The car has been trailered to the track since then. In
1992 I built a 302 it had a 1970 boss block domed TRW pistons 12.5 to 1
comp.dart heads, and a roller cam. I still had the stock 8 inch with 4.62
gears and a Detroit locker, south side bars helped with traction. The trans.
is a glide with a 5000 stall coan converter. My best time was a 11.15 at 122
mph, that was on 8.5x26x15 Mickey Thomsons! It was just about at the cars
limits, it was time for some real tires.
In 1993 we back halved the car, it now has a 9" 35 spline disc break
rear with 14x32x15 tires. The old 302 broke the crank at 7600 rpm then it was
time for something new. The block is ford's sportsman, scat crank 3.85
stroke, eagle rods, TRW flat tops, comp cam solid roller, 672 lift. Heads are
world products sr.2.05 int 1.60ex . Intake is a victor 351 carb is a worked
over 700 holley. The best time for this combination is 10.58 at 122 mph. Other
extras are the Weld wheels, Fiberglass hood and scoop, jet hot coated custom
headers.
