Mustang II Parts
While not technically a "part" for the Mustang II, this key blank was included in some Mustang II attached to the warranty card that was in the glovebox when the car was purchased new from the dealership. Not all cars came with the key blank. In 1964, when Ford tried to export its new Mustang to Germany, they ran into a few roadblocks. A truck, and a motorbike maker owned the copyrights to the name Mustang. The name plates Mustang are removed and rebadged the cars with T-5 emblems. T-5 was the original Ford project name for the car. Mustangs in Germany were called T-5's from 1964 - early 1979, when the right expired. Approximately 600 cars were exported in each of the 65-66 model years. Much less in later years... The emblem shown here was attached to the car in a couple of places, the dash above the glove box and on the vinyl top that is present on the Ghia and some Coupe models.
For reference purposes, here is a photo of the hood ornament available for the Ghia. Here is a photo of the markings that were still present on a 1977 Ghia. This photo was taken this year (99) and the car has 80k miles on this engine. Looks like the inspector got a little carried away with the "ok" stamp.
This is a photo of the California Emissions sticker on the rear opera window of a 1975 Ghia. What is ironic about this vehicle is the fact that it has the California Emissions package yet was manufactured in Dearborn and has a DSO code of 48, Detroit. Here is a photo of a bucktag (build tag) from a Mustang II assembled in the San Jose plant in 1978. What makes this unique is the fact that until now, it was assumed that the San Jose cars did not receive bucktags. The tag was not located in the same spot as those found on Mustang IIs assembled at the Dearborn plant. The San Jose bucktag is attached to the LOWER radiator support just beneath the lower radiator hose. Another interesting discovering is the fact that the codes on the San Jose bucktags differ from those on the Dearborn tags. For example, KNG is the code for a King Cobra on the San Jose tag whereas KC is the code on the Dearborn tags.
