Car of the Month - November 2004
Keith Craft's 1978 King Cobra

I purchased this 78 King Cobra from the original owner on December 31, 2001.

It was immediately stripped down for the body shop and repainted the original 2R red in a base/clear coat. The interior was reupholstered in the original black/white Santa Fe check insets in black vinyl. The fabric was NOS from a Michigan supplier. The engine was replaced with a motor I had built for a scrapped 77 Cobra project. It is an 89 5.0 H.O Fuel injected, mild cam, 1.65 roller rockers, MSD distributor, Ford Racing coil, 9MM Ford Racing blue wires, Modified stock 89 plenum with Trick Flow adapter neck from a 94/95 to the 94/95 Throttle body. ( This eliminates the water lines that will dimple your hood and cause you to use an oversized 82 hood scoop or cut holes in your hood) K&N Filter charger, ported stock exhaust manifolds with ceramic coating. Transmission is a rebuilt C4 with B&M shift kit, rear end is Detroit Locker with 2:79 gears and a 5 lug conversion all the way around. Front is lowered with chrome Carerra coilovers and rear has 1" blocks. Wheels are Edelbrock 409's and are 15 X 8 out back with 225/50/15 and 15 X 7 up front with 205/50/15.

Exhaust is custom bent to side exit just behind the rear wheels and has a real sweet tone with MagnaFlow duals. Future Mods include 3:23 rear gears, in tank fuel pump conversion, and air ride adjustable air bags up front to keep from plowing with that airdam!
