This Mach I is 8th Mustang II that has had a spot on my driveways over the years, my first being a 1974 Red Fastback in the late 70's. I sold it to my mother who drove it until the engine (4 cyl std.) died in the early 80's. It was not until I met my current wife Mona eight years ago, that Mustang ll's would creep back into my life. I lovingly restored her dad's Red 1977 Ghia that he left her, (COTM Sept 07 http://mustangii.net/sep07.asp) over a couple years. We began attending local car shows and we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of attention we received.
As we all can attest to, parts donor cars are a necessity due a lack of aftermarket or NOS parts. A 1977 grey coupe (COTM April 07 http://mustangii.net/apr07.asp) and a 1977 Aqua Ghia were acquired to complete Mona's car. Concours restoration completed, the 1978 White Cobra arrived on the scene, in need only of some very important detailing to bring it up to show qualitly. A 1977 White Cobra was to follow shortly with some quality parts saved for future projects and the remainder shared with the Forgotten Pony shop. On Halloween, we picked up the 1978 White King Cobra (with the pumpkin interior) from Yakima Wa. bringing it back to the island. Only to be followed by the famed "Orangastang" from Tony's shop the following weekend - a donor car for the KC.
On one of our next parts trip to the Forgotten Pony shop, appeared the 1978 Red/Black Mach 1, catching the eye of my lovely wife Mona. After being rescued by Tony from the local insurance firm, which had no interest (or parts) in fixing a fender bender, Tony saw the potential and completed the obvious repairs with his collection of ll parts. With the low kilometers (98,000) and loving care it had received from the previous owner, my wife thought it would be nice (for me) to take it to the next level. She saw herself driving it this summer and we bought it from Tony In January 2011. I have spent the last 4 1/2 months restoring this to show quality and had it out recently at our first show and shine for the season. The car was well received and the color combination really seems to attract attention.
