Car of the Month - January 2006
Mark Souza's 1976 Coupe

My name is Mark and I live in the small foothill town of Valley Springs California. This here is my 1976 Ford Mustang II. It has a re-built factory 302V8 and an Automatic Transmission. It has no Air Conditioning but, I love it just the same!

I purchased this car September 21, 2005. It was a one owner car from San Francisco California. The original owner purchased it at “Seremonte Ford” on October 5 1976.

When I got it, the original yellowish-gold paint was faded and chipped, it had the original Mustang “Pie Tin” 13” hubcaps, and the front seats were torn but, that was the only damage done to the interior other than the layers of dirt, cigarette ash and cigarette smoke residue(he was a heavy smoker). Remarkably the body has NO RUST. Even-though it spent it’s life in the bay area.

I have re-painted it twice now. The first time I completely sanded and primed it. Then I painted it all one color called “Light Driftwood” by G.M. It did nothing for the car other than to get rid of the nasty original color. So I put it back in the garage a week later and lightly sanded it. Then I sprayed it again. This time I made it two tone. The white is called “ Safety White” by Rust-Ox. The other color is “Cashmere Beige” by Dupli-color. The pin-stripe is a “Metallic Gold” by 3M. I was amazed by what a difference it made and how well it came out. I have all the right equipment for painting and that makes a difference. But, you have to have Patience when painting a car!

The wheels are from my 1973 Pinto wagon and are original Ford factory 13”Mag wheels but, with new emblems on the center caps. I have replaced the seats with a pair from a wrecked 2001 Ford Escort that had 13,000 miles on it. They are super comfortable and reline too. They were beige velour and my interior is black vinyl. So I took the seats to the upholstery shop and they made custom fit seat covers for it. That was a whole lot cheaper then re-upholstering the seats.

The engine was rebuilt in March of this year when it had 87,000 miles on it. When I got the car the odometer read 98,163 miles. Now it has reads 101,893. I think I can get another 100,000 mile out of it.
