First of the Jewel-Like Small Cars
By Burgess H. Scott

A brand new generation of little Mustangs has arrived with the introduction of Mustang II. There are four appealing models in two-door and three-door body styles. Hardtop and Ghia are the two-door versions and the 2 + 2 and Mach 1 are the three-door models.
It was nine years ago that the original Mustang appeared and created overnight a new segment of the market - the sporty compact or "pony car". The new car will carry on that spirit, and in addition it bids well to establish a new class of jewel-like little cars that will rival all other automobiles large and small, in quality, luxury, fineness of detail and craftsmanship.
Although Mustang II is nearly seven inches shorter than the original 1965 model and nearly 19 inches shorter than the 1973 model, it has a remarkable amount of interior room. For example, the front leg room is 41.8 inches, the same as that of the 1965 model and a fraction of an inch more than that of the 1973 model.
Its instantly decernible quality is the result of perhaps the most meticulous design, engineering and construction ever to go into a car. For instance, a "fits and finishes" task force of production and design people made sure that every part fit right and looked right. The number of joints was reduced for trimmer fits.
The task force examined each visible interior part for appearance by itself, and then again when assembled with other parts. Interior surfaces were examined critically and wherever possible a softer, more elegant finish was applied.
The result is what might be called "the right car for the right time". It's trim in size yet roomy, economical in operation, a marvel of precise engineering with a ride to be remembered. Mustang II is a remarkable value.
