It all started when i was 15 working at my uncle's car wash. It was a summer job and I was saving for a 69 Mustang to restore. My uncle used to bring the auto trader in everyweek when it came out and I would go through it on my lunch searching for a Mustang. Well one day I was looking through it and I saw this Mustang and somthing about the car I had to see. The ad was 78 Coupe 4 spd 2.3 original owner stored for 10 years best offer. So I called him up and arranged a date to see the car.
That day I rushed home, I walked in the house and my dad asked how was work and I told him were going to see a car. Well the weekend came and we were off to see this Mustang, I had $700 in my pocket thinking I might be taking this car home. We pulled up to the driveway and he had the car out and I instantly fell in love and knew I had to have this car.
It was super clean there was one spot on the A piller and the notorious II rusted/warped rear bumper. My dad knowing his Mustangs and cars said I should work out a deal. I have to admit I was really nervous being 15 and never negotiated for a car before. So we went to the backyard while my dad was going over the car. I knew the car was worth more then what I had in pocket so I offered him 1000. He looked at me and says "do you know much its worth?". I was embarrased and said I have an idea. So I told him I can make between 15-17 hundred before the end of the summer and he told me he will take 1500 and he will keep the car in the garage untill I get the money. I offered him a down payment but he grinned and said "don't worry, the car won't go anywhere, it will be here when your ready".
The next month and half where the longest ever. I would call the gentleman every two weeks to update him on my progress and ensure him I am coming for that little gem. The day finnaly came I was taking my car home me not being able to drive so my dad drove it and I was in the passenger seat.
Since that day I swaped out the 2.3 for a 351 cleveland Fmx auto then to a Boss 302 T5 five speed combanation, which will be my daily driver. I am now 19 and this will be the first summer I get to drive the car for more then 10 days.
